What are the social media trends for 2022?

The first question is: what have millennials been up to on social media lately? What are the current trends, and how are they being used to make money?

Social media marketing has come a long way, and it’s no longer just about the standard Facebook ad that you and I love; it also includes videos, dances, and content from sponsored influencers.

We know that you can’t keep up with the latest trends, but we, like social media, should adapt as well. So, what are the major trends to look for in 2022?

According to an article by LaterBlog, there are quite a few:

  • Creator economy will be booming

With more than 50 million content creators worldwide, 2022 will see a surge in creative energy and the rise of a new sort of online economy. The cost of admission is extremely low – sometimes even free. To become a content creator, all you need is a device and an internet connection.

  • More Streamlined Social Commerce

More people are finally starting to market their businesses online and, as a result, profit from social media by selling and promoting their items. It has proven to be effective, and as a result, more people will engage in social commerce.

  • Short-form Vertical Video Is Here to Stay

No one wants to watch a video that lasts more than a minute. Tik Tok is one of the places where a vertical short-form video with enough views can generate income.

  • Brands Let Loose on TikTok

TikTok, TikTok, it’s time for you to download TikTok. Why? When you use TikTok for business, your digital marketing approach effectively grows endlessly, thanks to its more than 1 billion followers. The app is also noted for being attentive to its customers’ needs. When active users like certain features or trends, TikTok creates new editing features or effects to allow users to create similar content.

  • Rise of the LinkedInfluencer

A thought leader in a specific area who shares organic material with a significant LinkedIn following is referred to as a LinkedIn influencer. And why it’s almost always a far better investment than becoming a Twitter influencer. Every LinkedIn link has a little more weight than a Twitter connection. The majority of users on LinkedIn connect with business people they’ve met off-platform. As a result, establishing authority on the platform transfers into real-world credibility with people you already know.

The Covid-19 pandemic has had an enormous effect on businesses world-wide. But with every obstacle there is also an invite to become innovative. At the moment we, at Cuberoo, encourage businesses to ask themselves how they can adapt and take advantage of doing business virtually.

At the moment businesses should focus on what they can control which is building their online reputation, building their brand and engaging with their customers online. Studies show that businesses who continue to market during tough times are the ones who survive and come out stronger on the other side.

This is why we’ve created an online course. We want to help businesses understand social media and how to leverage it for a small, once-off fee.

Every business should adapt and use software, online channels and tools to help them flourish in this century of rapid change. No business owner can fully thrive without knowledge of technology and what it can do for them. Technology, when used right, can reduce costs and speed up tasks. It has forever changed the way we market. As a digital and social media agency we’ve seen the results first hand that businesses enjoy who do adapt and are willing to learn how it can benefit them.

January 2020 kicked off with Cuberoo Director and founder, Nadia von Maltitz, speaking at Solo Solo Gracia guest house about all things digital, marketing & brand.

Startupgrind is an initiative from Google. “Startup Grind is the world’s largest community of startups, founders, innovators, and creators. We bring like-minded yet diverse individuals together to connect, learn, teach, help, build, and belong. We do this daily through our local events, flagship conferences, startup programpartnerships, and online media + content – collectively reaching over 3.5 million individuals worldwide”.

Check out the video from the event here:

Here were a few points that were discusses:

  1. Online marketing in South Africa is a space not a lot of businesses are owning yet. Your business has the chance to stand out and you should take it.
  2. Social media’s algorithms are making it harder for organic posts to stand out, invest in sponsored ads.
  3. Create more content than you consume.
  4. Make sure your brand is authentic and consistent.
  5. Linkedin is great for business to business marketing, whereas Facebook and Instagram are great platforms for business to consumer marketing. Make sure you understand platforms and who they serve.

A little bit of background on Nadia:

“Nadia von Maltitz is the owner of Cuberoo – a digital agency that specializes in social media and creative strategy.

Her work experience at some of our country’s biggest agencies namely: Ogilvy & Mather, DDB & FCB paved the way and meant getting to do advertising work nationally and globally for clients like Volkswagen, RCS, Tiger Brands, Audi, BMW Motorrad, McDonalds & FNB.

With a post graduate degree in Strategic Marketing Communications from Johannesburg as well as having a diploma in graphic design she decided to take the leap and start her own business at the age of 23, proving that you can start a business with virtually no capital. There is a major gap and lack of practical, implementable knowledge for businesses when it comes to how to been seen and heard online. Now, three years later, she aims to empower others and to keep helping businesses grow using a 21st century approach to marketing.”
